Sensor Calibration & Installation

The DRI Soil Characterization Laboratory has extensive experience in the design, calibration, installation, and data management of soil moisture sensors for monitoring of the soil-water balance and integrating soil characterization with numerical model validation. Typical calibrations include Campbell Scientific, Inc., sensors including water content reflectometers (CS-616) and heat dissipation sensors (CS-229). Site specific soil is recommended for calibration of CS-616 probes. All CS-229 probes are calibrated under both vacuum saturation and over desiccant. Warden silt loam at 4 soil-water potentials also used to develop a sensor specific calibration.
